FIRST WAP EMAIL SERVICE LAUNCHED FOR ARAB USERS
Maktoob.com users can now access Maktoob email on their mobile phones

Dubai: Maktoob.com, the leading Arabic community on the Internet, has announced that it will take its wide-ranging online services to a higher level by announcing its wireless initiative called Maktoob Mobile E-Mail, a unique service that allows registered members to send and receive their emails using WAP enabled mobile phones.

The introduction of Maktoob Mobile E-Mail by Maktoob.com (www.maktoob.com) is another first in the Arab world by the premier Arabic Internet service. Announcing the new development, Managing Partner Hussam Khoury said that the launch of Maktoob’s mobile facility would empower subscribers with the most sophisticated tools for online interactivity through their WAP-enabled mobile phones or hand-held devices.

With mobile usage gaining momentum rapidly in the region, the new service is sure to appeal to our constantly mobile users who need reliable sources of information that is crucial for their operations,” Khoury pointed out. “WAP has already been widely accepted in the West and there is very little time before it gains prominence in the Middle East.

As a first step, the facility has been activated for only email but Khoury said that Maktoob.com would soon be able to offer a range of other highly developed mobile solutions. Using the service, subscribers can read and send their email messages through their WAP-enabled mobile phones or handsets. Maktoob Mobile E-Mail is free of charge for its members and the user only needs to pay for call costs (GSM).

Maktoob Mobile E-Mail facility guarantees ultimate mobility to busy people, offering them maximum connectivity when on the move,” he added. “It essentially puts the Internet and Email services in the user’s pocket.

This quick and easy access to email communication undoubtedly puts Maktoob.com far ahead of other Arabic services. Recently, the company introduced the Auto Scan Anti-Virus facility for its users, allowing all incoming and outgoing email communication to be scanned for dangerous computer viruses.

In recognition of its wide-ranging Internet services, the highly renowned Alexa.com, a subsidiary of Amazon.com, recently ranked Maktoob.com as the leading Arabic web service. “We are a team of forward thinkers,” Khoury pointed out. “The rapid increase in our registered member base endorses our popularity among the Arabic community and we are keen to encourage that positive support by constantly offering such state-of-the-art services.

Maktoob.com is the first Arabic / English web-based email solutions provider and leading virtual community for Arabs around the world. Launched in October 1998, Maktoob.com gained instant success among Arabs around the world. It currently boasts of a membership base of 450,000 users worldwide.
